Ok so after sharing with you my naked male statues of Florence post, I thought I would add the naked male statues of Paris!  Well Part 1 anyway – there are soooo many naked male statues in the Louve I will leave them for another post or two.

Trocadero Gardens

The Trocadero Gardens is located on the opposite side of the Seine to the Eiffel Tower.  It provides great views of the Eiffel Tower.  However, it can be really busy with tourists and there are a lot of hawkers there selling cheap trinkets.

The gardens consist of a number of ponds and fountains.  Unfortunately only the largest pond had water in it and no fountains were operating when we were there.

So what else was there to do?  Take photos of the male statues of course.

Palace of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles was first build int 1623 by Louis XIII.  But it wasn’t until later in the 1600’s that Louis XIV enlarged it and turned it into a royal palace.  In 1682 he moved the royal court from Paris to Verailles with it becoming the seat of political power until 1789.

When visiting Versailles be prepared for a long queue to get in if you’re not part of a group or have not pre-purchased tickets.  When inside the palace you will be met with wall to wall tourists.  It felt claustrophobic in some rooms because there were so many people. Unfortunately the only day we could visit was raining and we were not able to spend much time in the gardens which was disappointing.

But Versailles is an amazing place to see.  It retains many stunning sculptures and artwork.
