5 Items I Always Have in my First Aid Kit

Posted In: Travel Tips
A first aid kit is a must for any traveller and there are plenty of “off the shelf” type kits that are great for most needs. But there are specific items that may not be in your standard first aid kit that I always make sure are included in my kit. Item 1 – Blister Pads You never know when you will get a blister, even if you have worn your shoes a lot before travelling.  Even when visiting cities we walk a lot and it is not uncommon for us to walk over 20km each day.  I wear my favourite and most comfortable[...]
Best Camera for Travelling

What is the Best Camera for Travelling?

Posted In: Travel Photography
Photography is not just a hobby for me, it’s a passion.  I carry a lot of camera gear with me when I travel and actually use all of it most of the time. I’ve been asked what is the best camera to have when travelling.  Well, I have one simple answer.  The best camera is the one you have with you!  I know that is such a cliche. Let me explain.  (Oh and in future posts I will talk more about different cameras). I have taken photographs that I absolutely love with a DSLR, a mirrorless camera, a co[...]

Fellini Restaurant & Bar, Gold Coast

Posted In: Australia
A cold and wet winters day on the Gold Coast.  What is there to do?  Find a great restaurant for lunch, of course! There is nothing better than great Italian food on a cold and wet day.  So we decided to eat at Fellini Restaurant & Bar.  Fellini has a reputation for serving great Italian cuisine. Fellini's is located at the Marina Mirage in Main Beach and had great views of the marina and broadwater. The view from our table. Even on a rainy day the view is amazing. Fellini has been awa[...]

Our Local Bar in Amsterdam – Cafe De Gaeper

Posted In: The Netherlands
One of the things I love about travelling is finding a great spot to eat and have a drink.  Even better is when the atmosphere is so great that you want to go back again and before you realise, it has become your local bar while you are there. Whilst in Amsterdam, we called in for a drink and dinner at a small cafe / bar near our hotel called Cafe De Gaeper.  We ended up having drinks there most nights we were in Amsterdam. Food Cafe De Gaeper serves reasonably priced typical pub / bar food.  The meals tast[...]

Start a Travel Tradition

Posted In: Travel Tips
One of the fun things we love to do when we travel is follow a travel tradition – something that we do everywhere we visit, well in a lot of the places we visit. The tradition doesn’t have to be big.  It can be something small.  My small tradition is to buy a key ring from every city / country we visit.  It’s just a small trinket to remind me of where we have been. Our Tradition We love food and wine.  For us, experiencing great restaurants around the world is something we love to do. So our tradi[...]

How many times have you got to airport security to be fumbling to find items that need to be scanned separately.  Or worse, have someone in front of you that doesn’t realise that they have to have their laptop and liquids scanned separately and once they find those items, they buzz the security screening because they haven’t taken items out of their pockets! The following 5 tips have come from my experience while travelling and the mistakes I’ve made and seen other people make while going through airport security[...]

Male Statues & Their Appendages – Paris Part 3

Posted In: France | Male Statues
This is the fourth in my blog series of Male Statues & Their Appendages.  If you haven’t seen the previous three blogs, please head over to my Male Statues Series. We spent a day at the Louvre.  If you are planning a trip to the Louvre, you need to understand that it is large and takes time to be able to see everything.  My tips are, if you don't have much time, before you go, work out which exhibits you want to visit and make your way to them.  If you have more time, take a map and work your[...]

Trip to Davidson Glacier, Alaska

Posted In: United States
We arrived in Skagway on board the MS Noordam, a Holland America Line ship as we were sailing the Alaskan Inside Passage.  There were a number of options for excursions in Skagway and we were excited to be able to visit Davidson Glacier. Getting to Davidson Glacier A mini bus collected us from the cruise ship dock.  The dock has minimal facilities but is a short work into Skagway.  The mini bus drove us to the harbour where the smaller boats are moored.  This is where we boarded a motor boat for[...]

Be Respectful in Places of Worship

Posted In: Travel Tips
It should go without saying that you would be respectful in places of worship.  Well you would think so.  Unfortunately that isn’t always the case. Let me give you an example.  We visited the Sultan Hassan Mosque in Cairo.  As is usual in Cairo, it was hot when we were there.  But I knew we would be visiting this and other mosques on the day.  We both dressed in long pants, my shirt had 3/4 length sleeves and my husband wore a short sleeve button up shirt.  I also took a scarf with me bu[...]
