A Short History of Arrowtown

Arrowtown was founded during the 1860s gold rush. When gold was discovered in the Arrow River in 1862, thousands of miners flocked to the area, hoping to strike it rich. This boom led to the rapid development of the town.

The Chinese miners played a significant role in the town’s history. Many Chinese immigrants came to Arrowtown during the gold rush, and their legacy can be explored at the restored Chinese Settlement. The Settlement provides insight into the challenges these miners faced and their contributions to the area.
